In the past decade, Raanana has become one of the leading centers of hi-tech in Israel and major corporations have established bases here; as have academic centers such as the Open University.

The municipality has placed a special emphasis on environmental quality, creating a beautiful and green city appearance, with gardens and parks and an extensive recycling system and heightened public awareness of this important issue – all in accordance with the international standard for environmental quality, ISO – 14,000, which has been awarded to the city

Moreover, the municipality is continually involved in creating a safer physical environment for its residents and its efforts have been recognized with a designation by the World Health Organization as a "Safe Community".

As part of its policy to create an accessible city, the municipality has established "Park Haverim" (Friends Park) – an accessible playground for children with special needs, which is the only one of its kind in Israel.

Raanana has enjoyed a balanced budget for the past several years, thanks to its excellent management. Its unique services and high level of residents' involvement in the community contribute to its success and accomplishments.

Raanana currently has 78,000 residents. Most of them are veteran Israelis, but there are many immigrants from western and eastern countries, South Africa, Latin American countries and the former Soviet Union. In recent years, the city has welcomed immigrants from South America and France.
