: Raanana signed a sister city agreement with Bramsche, Germany in January 1978, to promote understanding and friendship between the residents of the two cities, in particular the younger generation, by means of reciprocal exchanges. This friendship contributes to opening a new page in the relations of the two peoples, given the difficulties of the recent past.
Bramsche is an attractive city of 32,000 residents, with a long history, dating back hundreds of years. The modern city, surrounded by nature, offers its residents a high quality of life and excellent education, culture and sports facilities.
Mr. Martin Drucker, a Raanana resident and secretary of Hapoel Raanana, initiated the first connections between Raanana and Bramsche, which were based on sports and youth exchanges. There have been many municipal and cultural exchanges since the late 70s, and a deep friendship has been forged between the two cities. In Israel’s Jubilee Year, 1998, a delegation from Bramsche, led by the Deputy Mayor Liesel Holtermann, visited Raanana and presented the city with three benches in honor of the Jubilee. These benches were placed in the main park in Kiryat Sharett.
The Mayor of Bramsche, Mr. Ewald Fisse, visited Raanana in October 1998, and hosted the Mayor of Raanana, Mr. Zeev Bielski in 1999. Following a decision by the Raanana City Council to name the roundabout at the junction of Ben Gurion and Ostrovsky Street after the City of Bramsche in honor of 25 years of friendship, the Mayor of Bramsche, Mrs. Liesel Holtermann dedicated the square in November 2004.
Every year, the two cities exchange youth and residents delegations and a group of dancers from the Raanana Dance Center performed in Bramsche during city celebrations held in 2003.
