Since its establishment in 1922 by American Jewish pioneers, Raanana has continued to attract and absorb new immigrants. Now a dynamic and much sought-after city with 78,000 residents, Raanana has a reputation as a pluralistic and enlightened city where thousands of new immigrants mainly from the States, Canada, Britain, South Africa, France and Russia, have made their home.

Raanana attracts new immigrants for many reasons:

  • High standard of living
  • High level of education with special attention to new immigrant children and a wide choice of education
  • Rich cultural life, with many cultural and social activities aimed at new immigrants in their language
  • Sports and leisure facilities and programs
  • High quality of the environment
  • Central location, 25 minutes from Tel Aviv
  • Many work opportunities in the area, including the city's Kiryat Etgarim business park which has become one of Israel's most important centers for hi-tech.
  • Pluralistic city with wide choice of synagogues, some of which serve the new immigrant population in particular.
  • Raanana Absorption Center and Ulpan, together with other language programs
  • Support and advice from the Municipal Absorption Unit before aliyah and during the absorption process
  • Large community of veteran immigrants to offer support and advice
  • Many absorption, immigration and voluntary organizations aimed at the new immigrant population, including AACI (US and Canada), ESRA (English-speaking), TELFED (South Africa), OLEI (Latin America), UNIFAN (France)
