: Raanana will hold a variety of events in honor of Yom Yerushalayim, which will be celebrated on Wednesday, 12.5.10.
Yom Yerushalayim – Tuesday, 11.5.10, Yad LaBanim Plaza, 18:00: A spectacular flag procession from the Raanana Junction and from Raanana Park to Yad LaBanim Plaza at 17:00. The Pninei Hasharon Troupe will perform, the story of parachutist Eitan Sagi, a Raanana resident and dignitary, who fought in the battle to liberate Jerusalem during the War of Independence, and a candle lighting ceremony. There also will be discussion circles on subjects related to the city’s heritage and history: the liberation of Jerusalem; Jerusalem Melodies – Jerusalem in Israeli music; Meurav Yerushalmi – Israel’s multi-cultural nature; Jerusalem Spirit – the city as a spiritual center and national symbol; Home in Jerusalem – settlement in Jerusalem and its environs; Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital. During the event, there will be a Jerusalem graffiti wall, where people can insert notes with their prayers and wishes, as they do at the Kotel. Many young people are expected to participate, including middle and high school students, students from Yeshivat Bnei Akiva and TZAMERET members (the Israel Zionist Council’s youth organization). The public is invited to attend!
Yom Yerushalayim Celebration – Tuesday, 11.5.10, HaMishkan Center for Music and Arts, 21:00: “Jerusalem Stories” – symposium on the people, Rabbis, language and tastes of Jerusalem, hosted by Yossi Alfi and including Jacque Cohen, Yehuda Atzva and Rina Padua. Music by: the Tzanchani Brothers. The event will be attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree, Deputy Mayor Aryeh Friedman and Raanana Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Peretz. Tickets: NIS 45.
Singing Jerusalem – Wednesday, 12.5.10, Yad LaBanim Plaza, 18:30: An evening of Jerusalem songs hosted by Einat Saruf. The event will be attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree, Deputy Mayor Ronit Weintraub and Deputy Mayor Aryeh Friedman. The public is invited to attend!
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “Jerusalem is the symbol of a city that integrates new and old, it is a vibrant modern city – the symbol of our independence as well as a city of holiness and a place of pilgrimage for the three major religions and a source of inspiration for the Jewish people in Israel and in the Diaspora.”
