The mayors of Herzliya, Raanana and Kfar Saba have approached the Ministry of Transportation with a request to promote the BRT Project concurrent to the paving of Highway 531.

In a meeting held at the Kfar Saba Municipality, Mayors Yael German (Herzliya), Nahum Hofree (Raanana) and Yehuda Ben Hamu (Kfar Saba) notified the Transportation Ministry’s representatives that the local authorities are in favor of promoting the BRT Project, which will provide a suitable solution to the transportation problems, which include traffic and air pollution.

However, the mayors emphasized that as long as there is no option of diverting the inter-city traffic to Highway 531, the allocation of lanes for the BRT will lead to traffic problems within the cities, instead of relieving such problems.

BRT is a public rapid transit system comprised of large-capacity buses, using advanced technology.  These buses travel in dedicated bus lanes, exclusively for buses.  The Ministry of Transportation is advocates the implementation of such transportation lines, which will connect the cities of Kfar Saba, Raanana and Herzliya, and in the future, will also reach Tel Aviv.

The mayors of the three cities believe that efficient public transit, using environmentally friendly and clean energy technologies will lead to the reduction of private transportation; and consequently, it will contribute to a significant improvement in environmental protection.  They added that it is essential to implement the paving of Highway 531, concurrent with the BRT project.
