: “It’s Just Me Peeking from the Illustration” – a comics exhibition by comics illustrator Claudio Sambel, has opened at Eshkol Hapayis, which is run by the Informal Education Administration’s Supplementary Education Division.
Comics Illustrator, Claudio Sambel, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has lived in Raanana since 1992. Sambel, a graduate of the Buenos Aires Art Academy, and the Comics and Graphic Humor Academy, worked at a number of community newspapers until he immigrated to Israel. Since 1999, he illustrates the comics section in “Children’s Teva Hadvarim” and “Mekor Rishon” Children’s Magazines. Claudio participated in many group exhibitions but this is his first individual exhibition.
After arriving in Raanana, Claudio taught many comics classes at the Art Center and the Batei Hatalmid. He began with three classes and today he teaches 13 classes with 120 students at the Art Center and Batei Hatalmid. Over the years, he has supported and encouraged young talent in this field, who have continued on to study art and have also competed in various competitions, including the peace poster contest (winning first place on 5 occasions at the city contest and first and second places at the national contest).
The artwork includes illustrations of children’s fairytales, animals from fairytales, books, fables as well as day-to-day subjects. He uses special techniques, color and humor which add a unique flavor and the work is displayed in a manner that is interesting, humoristic, witty and colorful.
The grand opening that was held on Friday, 14.5.10, was attended by Deputy Mayor Aryeh Friedman, director of the Informal Education Administration; educators, supplementary education coordinators, artists, etc. 9th graders from the Alon Middle School participated in a gallery discussion and joined a guided tour of the exhibition.
At the end of the event, the artist received a certificate of appreciation for his artistic contribution to raising awareness with regard to art and fostering tolerance among the city’s youth.
The exhibition is on display until the middle of June – Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 to 20:00 and Fridays from 8:00 to 13:00.
