At the FLL Robotics Competition that was hosted in the city, two groups of middle school students from Raanana made it to the finals, one of which also won the award for excellence!

Raanana continues to lead in promoting science and technology studies among its younger generation.

Last week, for the 2nd consecutive year, Raanana hosted the FLL Robotics Competition, held at the Aviv High School.  The regional contest was held over two days, with close to 60 teams of middle school students taking part from across the country, including five teams from Raanana’s middle schools:  Hasharon, Alon , Rimon, Roi Klein and Amit Renanim.

As part of the competition, the students presented models of robots they built and the research assignment that they conducted on the subject of transportation and they displayed their abilities on the subject of team work and creativity during the course of building the robot and the work.

The competition is part of the International FIRST Competition, run by the FIRST Association, sponsored by the U.S. NASA.

35 Raanana students, in grades 7 to 9 took part, who were adopted by the Aviv High School robotics department.  From the beginning of the school year, they have worked together to build the robots, with the participation and supervision of Eshkol Hapayis.

Ten groups made it to the finals, including two from Raanana:  The Alon Middle School group and a mixed group consisting of students from Rimon, Roi Klein and Alon.  The mixed group also won first palce in the excellence award category thanks to their impressive abilities, performance and achievements on all parameters!

The winning groups will compete in the final to be held at Yad Eliyahu on March 15th, and will be attended by Israel President Shimon Peres and Education Minister Gideon Saar.

The competition was attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree who congratulated all the participants.
