:The municipal education system marked the ‘Good Deeds Day’, held in Israel on 16.3.10, with a series of volunteer charitable activities, which characterize Raanana’s spirit of giving.
The religious elementary schools, Bilu, Ariel, Yavneh and Noam placed notes and prayers in the Western Wall, which were collected from children from Beit Issie Shapira. During their visit to Jerusalem, the students recited the traditional blessing for the trees at a moving event held at Ammunition Hill and attended by Mayor Nahum Hofree and his Deputy Mayor Aryeh Friedman.
During the event, the mayor and his deputy mayor, education division representatives, school principals and the student council members signed the Jerusalem Treaty, which will be added to the original Jerusalem Treaty displayed at the Ammunition Hill Museum.
At Shaked Elementary School, food items were collected to be sent to lone soldiers for Passover, and at Bartov, toys and letters were collected to be sent to earthquake victims in Haiti. At Hayovel, Dekel, Meged and Hadar, students photographed their friends doing good deeds at school, led by the student council administration. Yachdav students performed, dancing and playing instruments at the Senior Citizen Daycare Center. Members of Ziv’s Children’s Parliament visited the absorption center and handed out Passover Haggadot.
Students at Miftan Almog volunteered at a special education preschool and helped prepare holiday gift packages at Beit Issie Shapira.
At Alon Middle School, toys and furniture were collected for the needy as well as kosher for Passover food that was transferred to the Mikol Halev Association to be distributed to the needy. At Rimon Middle School, an activity was held at the Gamani School, including assistance to the students, the class, the grade and the community. At Roi Klein High School, the 7th graders and the school choir visited a senior citizen facility and Yonatan Middle School held a fundraising project for the hearing impaired population. Preschools also participated in this special day. Gan Tut prepared gift packages for Passover that were distributed at Zimmerman Senior Citizens Facility and Gan Admonit held a social activity at the AGAM School for special needs children.
Mayor Nahum Hofree: “I am proud of our students’ extensive activity that reflects the spirit of volunteering and giving back is a central characteristic of the Raanana community. On this day, we were all given the opportunity to make an impact, a change, and to stop our daily routine for a moment to help someone else, and do a good deed for our fellow man.”
