The delegation of Chilean mayors visits Raanana and gets an up-close look at the municipality’s extensive activity in the field of sustainability

Last week, a delegation of ten Chilean mayors was hosted by Mayor Nahum Hofree, as part of the Beit Berl International Institute of Leadership, in order for them to gain an up close look at Raanana’s extensive activity in the fields of sustainability, environmental protection and conserving natural resources (green energy).

Among the delegation members:  Melipilla’s mayors, past and present, and the mayor of La Pintana.

The visit opened with an official reception held at Yad Labanim and attended by Deputy Mayor Aryeh Friedman; City Councilman Attorney Eitan Ginzburg, the Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee and other municipal officials.  Afterward, Mayor Nahum Hofree presented the green projects implemented in Raanana and those in the planning stages.

The Chilean delegates then visited the Hayovel Elementary School, which is a green school that runs a long list of environmental protection activities, including the collection of rainwater for reuse, a meteorological station, an ecological garden, recycling corners and other related educational projects.

The delegation also visited the Water Purification Institute and had a tour of Raanana Park.

Mayor Nahum Hofree:  “Raanana is one of Israel’s pioneer cities in the field of promoting sustainable activity and we are proud to serve as a personal example for each study field and to assimilate values of environmental protection and activities that have made an impact in this field.”
