As part of the national effort to conserve water and pursuant to the decision of the Government of Israel, starting 1.7.09, the Surplus Consumption Tax will take effect.

The Surplus Consumption Tax is designed to bring about water conservation in households using a surplus amount of water; over 30 cu.m. every two months ( in a bi-monthly bill) in a household with 4 persons.

Those households whose water consumption exceeds 30 cu.m. will be billed an addition of NIS 20 per cubic meter of surplus.  Households whose water consumption does not exceed 30 cubic meters per two months, will continue to pay the regular water prices, as currently do.

Households with over 4 persons are given an addition of 3 cubic meters per person per month.

Check if the number of  persons listed with your water supplier is updated.  If not, update the water supplier to avoid being billed for surplus consumption.

It was decided to establish a committee to explore the alternatives.  The municipality will update the public the moment decisions are made on this subject.  In the event of unusual requests (contingent upon the Ministry of Interior’s records), contact the Water Bills Department – Tel:  09-7622107/8/9.

A cubic meter is 1,000 liters.

Contingent upon completion of the legislation in the coming weeks.
